Egyptian pyramids
The design of the Egyptian pyramid seems to have been a progression from the Sumerian ziggurat, a stepped pyramidal structure with a temple on top, which dated to as early as 4000-3500 BC.
Most were built as tombs for the country's pharaohs
The shape of Egyptian pyramids is thought to represent the primordial mound from which the Egyptians believed the earth was created.
Constructing the pyramids involved moving huge quantities of stone.
